An Aged Care Makeover

Time for an update on the Aged Care Facility I have been working on for the past 12 months. These places can be so depressing and I am sure it’s because of the colours used some 10-20 years ago when the facilities were last updated or built. This is the second facility I have been called in to refresh.

Initially I was asked to help out with paint colours. The rooms and hallways were quite dark and depressing painted in mauves and mustards. (Who decided mauve was an older person’s colour?) There were dashes of bright blues and yellow but in the main the place was dark. So working with the existing carpet, I chose a palette of fresher colours and instead of painting everything the one colour, I did what we would do in a home, and chose a white for the skirting boards and doors. This just lifts the whole space and adds some contrast and therefore interest.

After the painting was completed we installed shutters in the sitting rooms to make the rooms more streamlined.

I have also been sourcing new fabrics to co-ordinate with the new colour scheme and reupholster selected furniture pieces in the hallways and foyer. It will all come together once the painter moves into these areas and we get rid of those mustard walls.

Now I’m having fun finding new furniture for one of the dining rooms in the facility. New upholstered chairs, new dining tables, a sideboard and outdoor terrace setting to make the place look like a club is my mission. Let’s get rid of the institution feeling and make it a more friendly atmosphere. You can see more here.
